ABOUT US
Stirling East Primary School thrives in a unique Adelaide Hills setting, minutes from the Stirling town centre and approximately 28km from Adelaide CBD, via the South Eastern Freeway. Our campus is abundantly treed at the centre is the school’s emblem, a magnificent old oak tree. The original Stirling East School was built in 1860 on Pepper Avenue, near the current site.
The school relocated to its present site in 1969. A major building re-development was completed in 2004, with the official opening by The Hon Alexander Downer, MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, in October 2005. In 2011 an architecturally designed two storey, seven classroom building was completed under the Federal government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) project. This also allowed for grounds redevelopment. The school now features state of the art buildings and facilities.
School Ethos
We provide a safe, caring environment, challenging each student to maximise her/his individual potential through explicit teaching and curriculum in which we respond to a child’s abilities and interest, and offer all students a wide range of opportunities. Parent involvement is welcome and encouraged.The expectation is that students respect others and their school environment. Our school has a long and rich tradition that encourages students to participate in all facets of school life.
Achievements can be seen in consistently high results in competitions and Literacy & Numeracy State Tests.
The school has achieved outstanding success in extra curricular activities including SAPSASA sports and debating. The school has enjoyed success in the Tournament of Minds National Championships in Maths and Engineering, successfully taking out the title in 2006 and 2010. The school has four Houses (Barker, George, Lofty and Osmond) that provide great competition for the Annual Sports Day and Swimming Carnival.
Music plays an important role in the life of the school. Our school has a reputation for being one of the best State schools in the region.

Students make a positive contribution to the school through:
- A Buddy Program connecting junior school members with senior student mentors
- Class meetings and a Student Representative Council offering students the opportunity to voice opinions and influence school decisions
- A Quality Start week held in the first week of the school year.
Student behaviour is managed through a well-established set of school rules. The school uses the Restorative Justice approach to behaviour management and complimenting this is the Lionsquest program.
Students show pride in Stirling East Primary School with a uniform that bears its name and emblem. A Uniform Shop, run by parent volunteers, is sited on the school grounds.
Buildings and Facilities
The school underwent a major rebuild in 2003-2004 resulting with the almost all new buildings with modern layouts. All the school buildings are air-conditioned and carpeted. During 2010 the school underwent an additional three million dollar development as part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution stimulus. Completed in 2011, the new double story building replaced 7 existing traditional classrooms which primarily housed Middle Primary students.
Specialised facilities include the Music Room with two tutorial rooms for visiting music teachers, and a French Room. Henzell Library is named after the first Headmaster, Thomas Henzell. Assemblies, concerts and physical activities are held in Prankerd Hall. Prankerd Hall is also designated as the safe place in case of bushfires or other emergencies. Walkways and large undercover areas ensure everyone keeps dry during the long wet winters of the Adelaide Hills. The Administration Building faces onto Braeside Road and includes an Interview Room, Staffroom and Principal and two Assistant Principals’ offices. Out of School Hours Care operates daily. The school operates and OSHC onsite.
School Zone of Right
Stirling East Primary School is highly in demand. To manage the request for places a Zone of Right is in place.
Children who live within the Zone of Right have guaranteed entry to the school. Placement is also guaranteed for siblings.

Enrolment
Since 2014, South Australia has moved to a one intake policy with all children starting school at the beginning of the school year. If your child’s birthday falls between 1st January and 30th April they will start school in Term 1. If their birthday falls on or after May 1st they will start school the at the beginning of the following year.
Parents are very much part of the Transition Program, attending information sessions while their child is visiting their classroom.
Early school enrolment is available for gifted children. Please talk with your child’s Pre-School Director for information regarding early enrolment.
